FC Monmouth falls to Jackson Lions FC

FC Monmouth fell to Jackson Lions, 1-0, in a hard-fought battle at Count Basie Park on Saturday night.

Both sides shared an equal amount of chances, but it was the local rivals who were able to slip one into the back of the net.

FC Monmouth’s captain and Wigan, England native, Rhys Cotter, hit a volley from 30 yards out that rattled the crossbar. Meanwhile, Tyler Hutchinson had a breakaway that was denied by the lightning-quick Tommy Johnson from Jackson Lions.

“Again it was another awesome performance, just can’t seem to get the ball in the net. We need to get the job done and once we figure out how to do that it will complement all the nice football,” said Head Coach, John Killick, following the game.

Davi Caputo, who scored 2 goals for FC Monmouth in their away game at First State FC wasn’t present for the game against the Lions.

“Davi will be back and he was a big loss, but we have great depth and a lot of guys that can fill these roles. Of course, when one guy is missing a little piece of us is missing but yeah he will be back and he will be strong,” stated Assistant Manager, Seamus O’Connor.

Despite a tough result, the team is noticeably gelling together very nicely. Comradity within the team is building; the boys will look to build on this performance away from home at Atlantic City FC on Wednesday night. They will then travel to Philadelphia on Saturday night to take on Philadelphia Union Development Squad.

The away trip will be followed by FC Monmouth’s next home game, which will be on June 10 against Atlantic City FC.

John Killick is hoping to bring home six points and use that momentum to garner FC Monmouth’s first home win of the season.
