FC Monmouth VS Jackson Lions Preview

WRITTEN BY CHRIS DAILEY

FC Monmouth takes on Jackson Lions FC Saturday at 6 PM at the iconic Count Basie Park.

The two local rivals are separated by 33 minutes via the Garden State Parkway and this is not the first time the sides have met or interacted with one another.

Last year, the Lions were victorious over FC Monmouth with a 4-0 win. The Lions were led by one of the best amateur players in the country and former FC Monmouth star, Walter Calderon.

Calderon, who is FC Monmouth’s all-time leading goalscorer, was shipped to FC Monmouth for the 2021 season in FC Monmouth’s collaboration with Jackson Lions before the club joined the NPSL the season after.

FC Monmouth will hope to flip the script tomorrow in their rivalry against the Lions. The Blue and Gold are coming off of a big 3-1 victory over First State FC in which Davide Caputo scored 2 goals alongside another one from Tyler Hutchinson.

“It’s great to get our first win early in the season. On the road is tough and the lads worked very hard to get what they deserved. We spoke about being more clinical in front of goal, and they did. The lads are a great bunch and they are looking forward to a tough game against the Jackson Lions,” said FC Monmouth’s Head Coach, John Killick.

FC Monmouth and Jackson Lions both are at 3 points on the table, having both lost to FC Motown. Monmouth fell to the reigning national champions, 3-0, while the Lions lost 4-1.

FC Monmouth is hoping to continue their momentum and pick up a huge three points at home in front of a rowdy crowd.
