FC Monmouth is proud to release its inaugural schedule as members of The League for Clubs. A new fourth division U.S. soccer sanctioned league for innovators across the nation. Led by new Head Coach Hugh MacDonald, the Blue and Gold are shaping up to be top contenders in the East Division. Rowan superstar Johnny Troiano is set to make his way back to the club alongside other key contributors from last season such as Davide Caputo (Rowan), Jack Longo (Ithaca), and Andrew Araya (FDU).
“We’re incredibly excited to be joining The League for Clubs this year.” Says General Manager James Davis. He reiterated “While bringing back some strong returners we have supplemented the squad with some great additions for this summer, with the goal of making a playoff push.”
The season will commence on May 10 at 5:30 PM as FC Monmouth travels to Lighthouse Boys Club of Kensington. Founded in 1893 by Esther W. Kelly Bradford, “The Lighthouse” is one of the United States’ most storied clubs. The club became a breeding ground for some of the country's premier youth talents in the early 1900s. A total of eight Lighthouse youth players from that time period have since been honored as members of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Philadelphia-born Walter Bahr suited up for the Lighthouse during his youth career. Bahr went on to captain the United States to a historic 1-0 win over England at the 1950 World Cup. He was described by Rangers legend Tommy Muirhead as “good enough to play for any First Division team in the United Kingdom.”
Needless to say, the history of the club is rich. More recently, the club serves the youth of Philadelphia with a membership of over 300. The game will mark the first time FC Monmouth and The Lighthouse square off.
Monmouth will then make their long-awaited home return at Count Basie Park for a clash against former National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) starlets, Kingston Stockade. The match against Kingston Stockade has been a long awaited fixture for the Blue and Gold faithful. Founded by Dennis Crowley, the club has become well-known within the lower-league soccer scene for its transparency. Crowley’s in-depth articles on the financials behind running the club have been read by thousands around the globe. FC Monmouth managing partner Jacco de Bruijn, has even attributed some of the early successes of FC Monmouth's upbringing to following Crowley’s articles. Stockade’s supporter group, the Dutch Guard, have also risen to fame as one of the elite supporter groups within all of American soccer. The match is scheduled for May 18th at 6 PM.
The blue and gold will remain at home less than week later for a match against NY Braveheart on May 24th at 6 PM. Based out of Staten Island, NY Braveheart SC is home to a premier youth academy, with its top teams competing in the USL Youth system and EDP. They also have a separate men’s team within the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL).
MacDonald’s men will then embark on a road trip down south to Atlantic City FC. The bout will take place on May 31st at 3 PM. Atlantic City FC is FC Monmouth’s most familiar opponent, with the two spending the past several seasons as members of the Keystone Conference of the NPSL. The series between the clubs last season was tied 1-1. With only game one the schedule between the two sides, this match will be a battle to settle the score from last year.
Following Atlantic City FC, FC Monmouth will have yet another back-to-back home stand as they face Kensington Soccer Club and Met Oval FC on June 7th at 4 PM and June 14th at 6 PM, respectively. Similarly to Monmouth, Kensington Soccer Club is another successful community-centered club. Founded in 2010, the club initially started as an indoor program for teens. It has since turned into a community club that provides opportunities for kids to consistently play the beautiful game all year round. Prior to joining The League for Clubs, Kensington competed in the Eastern Premier Soccer League. The club has become an integral member of the local community over its 15-year existence.
Meanwhile, Met Oval FC is a premier academy located in New York. They have developed the likes of professional players such as Harrison Robledo (AV Alta) and Jake LaCava (San Antonio FC). They currently compete in MLS Next. Recently, their u19 side beat Toronto FC u19s 3-1. With a plethora of young, exciting players - many bound for collegiate scholarships - Met Oval FC will pose a challenge for FC Monmouth.
In the back nine of the season, FC Monmouth will travel to Kingston Stockade, NY Braveheart SC, and Met Oval. The matches are all scheduled for 6 PM on June 21st, 7PM on July 5th, and concludes with a morning clash at 11AM on July 12th, correspondingly.
FC Monmouth’s final home game of the regular season will be on June 27th at 7 PM against First State FC. FC Monmouth is 3-0-1 all-time against First State FC, winning both games in 2023 3-1. In their initial game, Caputo scored two lovely goals including a trademarked chip over the First State goalkeeper. Later in the year, Troiano’s seventh minute goal was added on by Aniello Lubrano and Jack Wagoner.
With all of the returning faces in addition to new signings such as Eddie Krupski (Rutgers), Lenny Aviles (Rutgers), Aidan Tisony (Seton Hall) and more, FC Monmouth is oozing confidence headed into the season. MacDonald likes to employ an attacking brand of soccer and is not short of weapons in his first year at the club.
Single game tickets will launch on Saturday March 22nd for our men’s season.
