FC Monmouth Falls To Jackson Lions 2-0

WRITTEN BY TARYN JACOBS

FC Monmouth fell to Jackson Lions FC, 2-0, at Donovan Catholic in their last away showing of the season.

The Lions asserted their dominance from the opening whistle, placing three shots on frame in the first five minutes of play. Monmouth’s goalkeeper Dawid Mroz put down two phenomenal saves, but the third one found its way around Mroz after a slip-up in the back line. About halfway through the first half, Jackson ripped a shot from wide and found the upper side netting, giving them an early 2-0 lead.

Monmouth struggled to find scoring opportunities during the match, but they had some. Monmouth’s forward duo, Jack Wagoner and John Troiano had opportunities to counter Jackson’s goal. However, both of their shots went just wide of the posts.

In the second half, Monmouth found their last scoring opportunity of the night, following a passback by a Lions defender to the keeper. Troiano took the indirect kick opportunity, but couldn’t maneuver the ball around the wall of Lions defenders.

Head coach, John Killick, reflected on the squad’s showing.

“Not our best performance. Sometimes it happens. A couple of things could’ve gone our way but didn’t,” Killick said. “We’re moving on to the next game.”

Ultimately, the Lions had the opportunities and capitalized on them early in the match, making it challenging for Monmouth to bounce back.

FC Monmouth looks to finish out the season strong against the Philadelphia Union Development Squad on their home turf. Kickoff is set for 6pm.

“I think a victory would be nice, some goals, put on a show for the fans,” Killick said.
