FC Monmouth VS First State FC Preview
WRITTEN BY CHRIS DAILEY
FC Monmouth is set to take on First State FC in a home affair at Count Basie Park on Saturday, June 24, at 6 PM.
FC Monmouth, led by captain Rhys Cotter, are anxious to rebound after a 3-1 defeat against FC Motown. In a game that could’ve gone either way, Monmouth ended up on the unlucky side when Robert Tapp received a straight red card that changed the trajectory of the match.
Despite the result and red card, however, FC Monmouth showed great strength and ability, as evident in John Troiano’s 30 yard rocket that put FC Monmouth up 1-0 early in the game.
In FC Monmouth’s reverse fixture against First State FC this season, they were victorious and picked up a 3-1 win away from home.
That match has been an unlucky FC Monmouth side's only win of the year, and as for First State FC, they are yet to pick up a point in league play and are hungry to do so.
FC Monmouth will be without star players, Conor Kelly, who is away in England, and Mason Martelloni, who picked up a broken nose injury in addition to the suspension of Tapp.
John Killick spoke about the roster issues, stating, “We have a big roster and carried a big roster for this situation, the amount of injuries we got just shows the amount of effort they put in and we had four or five guys injured, starting guys, and it’s kind of hard to come back from that. But, we will take a look at the squad on Tuesday and Thursday and onto the matches next week.”
The injury situation will be, luckily, canceled out by the big roster FC Monmouth carries and new faces will step up to the plate.
These new faces include the likes of Justin Ruffino, a former Rider University standout who is now slotting into the middle of the field for FC Monmouth in the absence of Kelly and Martelloni.
FC Monmouth fans are encouraged to come and support the Blue and Gold as they fight for 3 points in what could be the first home win of the season.
