Recap VS Atlantic City FC
WRITTEN BY TARYN JACOBS
FC Monmouth fell to Atlantic City FC, 3-1, in a mid-week matchup at Stockton University on Wednesday.
In the first half, possession seemed to be split pretty equally. However, it was the Blue and Gold who had more scoring opportunities.
After a scoreless 30 minutes, Atlantic City FC was able to find the back of the net off of a corner kick that ricochet off several players.
But FC Monmouth had a response. Ten minutes later, John Troiano found the inside of the frame adding an equalizing point to the scoreboard. Davide Caputo flicked the ball to Troiano who made his way just behind the defense and finished off a one-on-one with the opposition’s keeper.
The teams finished the first half with an even score of 1-1. Yet, ACFC came out stronger in the second half, creating a multitude of scoring opportunities. With just under 15 minutes left to play, Atlantic City scored two goals to protect their home turf.
Coach John Killick commended his squad for their first-half efforts, but noted that the team’s performance was not sublime in the second half.
“The first half was very good. The second half just didn’t click,” Killick said. “The guys were on different pages and it’s something we got to work on.”
He is hoping to change the momentum in practice in the coming days in order to put the team’s skills on display this weekend.
FC Monmouth will play the second of their back-to-back road matches this Saturday night against the Philadelphia Union Development Squad. With their next home game next Saturday the 10th in a rematch vs Atlantic City.
