FC Monmouth Vs FC Motown Preview

Written By Chris Dailey

FC Monmouth heads into a highly anticipated away match against FC Motown sitting second place in the Keystone East Conference. Motown, meanwhile, are first - a usual occurrence over the past 7 years.

FC Motown are by all means a juggernaut in the conference. They have appeared in two NPSL finals, winning one, in addition to being the longest surviving amateur team in the US Open Cup two years ago. FC Monmouth are still seeking to pick up their first ever three points against Motown and on Saturday night at Montclair State Soccer Park, and they have a legitimate chance of doing so.

This is the hottest any FC Monmouth has started in recent memory. After falling the Union away from home, the Blue and Gold have since picked up 6 out of a possible 6 points, the most recent being against Atlantic City FC, 2-1. FC Motown beat Atlantic City 1-0, so it’s safe to say an even matchup will be in store for Saturday’s showdown. FC Monmouth’s General Manager, James Davis, is ecstatic for the challenge.

“It’s been a great bounce back so far since our first game loss. Being able to mesh together so quickly is always the toughest part of every NPSL season. This weekend is a big test, and if they’re up for it, the results will speak for themselves,” said Davis.

Every year an underlying goal within the season is to beat Motown and that idea has finally dawned on this year's squad. The team is determined to be the one to do it.

“In my 4 years with the club and in the club's 7 seasons overall we’ve only ever taken 1 point off of Motown. Obviously we want all 3 points this weekend. They have a great squad year in and year out. This year I feel as though we are more prepared than ever to take on the challenge,” stated Davis in regard to taking upon the challenge.

FC Monmouth has been largely influenced this season by the play of Rowan midfielder, Davide Caputo. Caputo, in his second year with the club, provides an elegance to the midfield that is hard to replicate.

Centerbacks Mason Martelloni and Aidan Flynn, meanwhile, have given FC Monmouth great stability in the back. Martelloni is right footed while his counterpart is left footed, creating for a perfect balance in the Blue and Gold’s back line.

These talents will need a huge showing this Saturday night to ensure FC Monmouth turns the seemingly impossible into reality.
