Get To Know FC Monmouth Lead Athletic Trainer Wes Ostrzycki
April 29, 2024
FC Monmouth are pleased to have Elite Sports Physical Therapy back supporting the club for 2024. Elite have been avid supporters of the club for years and we are thrilled to have their trainers supporting the squad for 2024. Elite have two incredible facilities in Tinton Falls and Morganville, as they strive to serve the needs of athletes all around Monmouth County.
We sat down with Wes Ostrzycki, PT, DPT, ATC to ask him about his experiences with Elite and FC Monmouth. Over the years, Wes has both trained on the field with the team, and assisted them with their athletic training needs.
Q: Can you speak on your background/involvement in sports outside of work?
I have been involved with sports ever since I basically could walk. I grew up playing soccer competitively up through college, where I played at Monmouth University and William Paterson University. I also played basketball and golf both all the way up through high school. I still maintain an active lifestyle, playing soccer recreationally in the Garden State Soccer League (GSSL) as well as small sided leagues in addition to multiple volleyball leagues and lots of golf. I watch sports almost every day, and there isn't much that I won't watch when it comes to sports.
Q: Did your involvement in sports influence your decision in pursuing the education that you did?
Absolutely. I always knew I wanted to be around sports and active people prior to going to school for my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I feel that for kids, playing sports teaches many lessons they can carry with them throughout their lives including commitment, perseverance, teamwork, and openness to criticism & coaching that sets them up for success. Through my experiences in college, I realized I also had a passion for learning about the human body so it was a natural transition into Sports Medicine, where I would be given a chance to combine my passion for sports with knowledge of human movement systems that led to ultimately working in sports physical therapy. I feel that my personal experiences and knowledge of multiple sports helps me greatly in my field because I can relate to the mentality of an athlete recovering from a long-term injury, and knowing the movement intricacies of specific sports and positions is very important when helping get injured athletes back in the game on a daily basis.
Q: What is your current role at Elite?
Currently at Elite I work as a Physical Therapist, treating youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes get back to their sport at the highest possible level. I specialize in treating soccer players given my own experiences, but love working with athletes of all backgrounds, levels, and sports. Though most of my case is post-operative long-term injuries such as ACL tears, tendon ruptures, broken bones, and other surgeries, I also see non-surgical cases and overuse injuries for both the upper and lower extremities.
Q: What does Elite's involvement with sports in Monmouth County look like?
Elite Sports PT is very active with sponsorships and extra activities in the Monmouth county area. In addition to sponsoring FC Monmouth, we also have partnerships with multiple youth sports organizations and clubs including those in basketball, football, wrestling, and baseball. We treat kids from just about every high school in county and we love to support and give back to the community we are involved in, as well as seeing our patients on the field after rehab. You will often see one of our PT's, strength & conditioning coaches, or support staff members at the games of our patients / athletes watching them succeed in their sport of choice.
Q: What are some new/exciting things happening with Elite?
I am happy to announce that we are currently in the process of opening a clinic in southern Monmouth county where we can expand the high quality of our services to that area. Though no opening date is officially on the horizon, we are so passionate about what we do and feel as if our level of care is above and beyond what you may see in a typical commercialized clinic. With staff, resources, and a facility that is second to none currently located in Tinton Falls, NJ we are very excited to bring the same standards to another location shortly.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this summer? Both with Elite and FC Monmouth
I am very excited to see familiar faces as well as new ones both from the players' side as well as front office and management with FCM. The Keystone Conference of the NPSL is highly competitive and brings a great quality of soccer to our area - I am looking forward to seeing how the squad is able to mesh together and square up against some of the nation's top competition, and hopefully make a postseason run. At Elite, summer is a very busy time for us as our collegiate athletes are back from school to rehab their long term injuries. I am excited to see old patients, see the progress they've made since the last time I've worked with them, and help them return to play at the highest level for fall 2024.
FC Monmouth are incredibly grateful to have Wes and Elite SPT apart of our team. To inquire about a service that Elite offers you can contact them here or via phone at 732-544-0011.
