FC Monmouth vs Electric City Shock Match Preview
After capturing their first point of the season- the first in the club’s history against FC Motown- FC Monmouth is looking to continue the positive momentum with a Friday night matchup against Pennsylvanian rivals Electric City Shock, kicking off at 7pm at Count Basie Park.
Despite beginning the season with two losses, FC Monmouth has seen a change in the tide of late, following a resilient and mature comeback draw with an experienced and then-undefeated FC Motown side on their home turf.
Electric City Shock, the Scranton-based outfit, has seen a much different start to their season, winning two of their first three matches against Pennsylvania Classics and Atlantic City FC respectively, with the other result being a draw with rival West Chester United SC.
Electric City’s strong early-season form sees them sit second in the table through three match weeks, with FC Monmouth holding the 10th spot in the NPSL’s Keystone Conference.
Despite contrasting starts to the season between the two sides, FC Monmouth Head Coach John Killick feels that there is still so much to play for, and that last weekend’s result was a more proper starting-point for a team still growing into themselves, and each other.
“The first two weeks came at us a little quickly,” he began with his trademark, ear-to-ear grin that the entirety of FC Monmouth’s staff and fans have grown to love.
“We were still getting to know each other, the system, the culture. I feel that this past performance at [Motown] was a much more accurate starting point for the lads. They will be absolutely buzzing to come home and attempt to repeat that type of performance.”
Equalizing goal scorer and Scotsman Michael Mallon also chimed in on the importance of the previous match, and how it can in-turn catapult the team into a strong run of form heading into the thick of midseason play.
“To come away with a point against a team like Motown, to get the goal, it’s even better,” he said after the match with Motown.
“We worked hard all the way through. It was tough, going a goal down, but we got a positive result, and hopefully we can carry on into Friday.”
