After a historic and record-breaking performance last week, FC Monmouth will look to continue the momentum as it hosts First State FC. The two sides met on May 29, as FC Monmouth won 2-1 in a weather-shortened 61 minute game. First State FC, like FC Monmouth, made history last week. The club won its first-ever game, defeating Hershey FC on the road 3-2. The three goals were also a club record through five games.
LAST TIME OUT
On a wind and rain filled May 29 evening, FC Monmouth defeated Torch FC 11-1 for its second-straight victory. Forward Walter Calderon scored a club record six goals and added two assists, capping off a seven-goal week. Forward Jacob Rubinstein scored twice in his debut, and midfielders David Nigro and Pio Schiano-Lomoriello each scored their first of the season. The 11 goals were the most for any NPSL club since July of 2019, and the most for any Keystone Conference club since June of 2017.
ABOUT FIRST STATE FC
Founded in 2019, First State FC is the first NPSL team to reside in the state of Delaware, and the latest addition to the Keystone Conference. They are the first team to enter the conference since FC Monmouth did before the 2018 season.
FC Monmouth won the first meeting between the clubs 2-1 on May 29. Saturday’s game will be their second clash in 11 days.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
After his six goal performance against Torch FC, Calderon now leads the NPSL in goals scored with seven. He is the first FC Monmouth player in club history to lead the league in a statistical category.
Following their season opening loss to FC Motown, FC Monmouth has now collected points in each game they have played. They are one win away from tying the longest winning streak in club history (three).
FC Monmouth has scored nine more goals than it has allowed, which is the highest goal differential in club history.
