With his goal against FC Motown on June 12, forward Walter Calderon became FC Monmouth’s new all-time leader in goals, continuing his hot start to the 2021 season. Calderon, along with his teammates, have set numerous new club records through six games and are on pace to set more.

After missing the first two games of the season, Calderon did not waste any time, as he pushed himself into a tie for the club record in the span of four days. He recorded his first of the season on May 26 against First State FC, and followed that up with a club record six against Torch FC on May 29. He went scoreless in the rematch with First State FC on June 5, and surpassed Regsan Watkins for the all-time record in FC Monmouth’s last game.

Calderon currently sits tied for the NPSL lead in goals, and averages two per contest, which ranks second league-wide. In four starts this season, he has amassed 268 minutes. When factoring in his scoring totals, he is averaging a goal roughly every 34 minutes.

During the 2019 season with Atlantic City FC, Calderon scored six goals across 562 minutes and seven games. He has surpassed his 2019 in almost 300 less minutes, and still has four regular season games ahead of him.

Calderon isn’t the only player for FC Monmouth to make club history this season. On May 19, defender Zachary Pereira became the club’s new all-time leader in games played. Over three seasons, he has played in 24 games for FC Monmouth, and continues to lead the club record book with 1,928 minutes.

As mentioned, all of Calderon and Pereira’s teammates have been part of history this season. FC Monmouth has scored 19 goals this season, which is a new single-season scoring record. The club scored 18 over 10 games in 2019, and 17 during the 2018 season. This year, the club surpassed both of those totals in four less games.

This year’s team was also the first to score four or more goals in a single half. They did that three times over the span of two games (May 29 and June 5). They also broke the single-game goal record (four) in the span of 28 minutes in their 11-1 victory on May 29.

Defensively there are some accolades as well. FC Monmouth held Torch FC to just seven shots on May 29, which was the fewest for an opponent since June 23, 2018. Goalkeeper Matt Perrella recorded seven saves in the season opener against FC Motown, which was the most for a goalkeeper since July 7, 2018.

FC Monmouth has a 2-2-2 record through six games, and will begin a push for a playoff berth over its final four contests. The club will host conference-leading Atlantic City FC this Friday, June 18, at 7:00 p.m. The in-state rivalry will be the final home game of the season for FC Monmouth. For tickets, click here.
