FC Monmouth’s third season in the National Premier Soccer League will begin with a clash against FC Motown in one of only four games at Count Basie Park during the regular season. FC Monmouth finished 2019 with a record of 5-4-1, placing them fifth in a very competitive Keystone Conference. FC Motown went 6-3-1 during the regular season, and won both of their Keystone Conference playoff games to advance to the Northeast Regional Semifinals, where they fell to FC Baltimore.

LAST TIME OUT

FC Monmouth defeated USL League Two’s Real Central New Jersey 2-1 in a preseason friendly on May 2. Forward Josh Hesson scored two goals in the span of five minutes hallway through the second half, and goalkeeper Matt Perrella recorded two saves and a clean sheet in 65 minutes of action.

ABOUT FC MOTOWN

Founded in 2012, FC Motown has experienced a lot of success across numerous competitions. They have advanced past the Keystone Conference Playoffs in each of the first two seasons of FC Monmouth’s existence, and that streak dates back farther than that. In 2018, they made it all the way to the NPSL National Final, where they fell 3-1 to Miami FC 2. They also field teams in USL League Two and the Garden State Soccer League.

FC Motown leads the all-time series 3-0-0, including a win over FC Monmouth in the Keystone Conference Semifinals in 2018.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

FC Monmouth will look for it’s first-ever victory against FC Motown, who has won all three meetings between the two sides.

Saturday will be the second time Count Basie Park has hosted a season opener. FC Monmouth defeated New Jersey Copa FC 2-0 to open the 2019 campaign.
