FC Monmouth will be faced with the tough task of going away to the No. 1 team in the conference, West Chester United SC, on the final day of the season with a playoff spot on the line tonight.

Riding a four-match winning streak, West Chester comes into tonight’s game at the top of the table thanks to their supreme goal differential of +20. They currently hold a record of 6-2-1, tied with FC Motown and Atlantic City FC on 19 points.

FC Monmouth heads into the match with their destiny still fully in their hands; a win in West Chester will clinch the No. 4 spot in the Keystone Conference and a playoff berth. However, if they draw or lose tonight, FC Monmouth will need Philadelphia Lone Star FC to slip up in their 6:00 p.m. game with Electric City Shock SC. Lone Star sits two points below FC Monmouth ahead of the final match of the season, so the results of both games will directly decide who will claim the final playoff spot.

FC Monmouth and West Chester United have met just once before, when Monmouth pulled off a shocking 1-0 victory at Count Basie Park on June 30th, 2018. West Chester outshot FC Monmouth 14-6 (7-1 on target) and forced goalkeeper Scott Weigel into five saves without making one of their own throughout the ninety minutes. A brave defensive performance and one successful counter-attacking goal scored by forward Jordan Saling earned the three points for FC Monmouth, which went on to set them up with a final-day game versus New Jersey Copa FC where “win and you’re in” was the scenario. It is a familiar scenario that the Blue and Gold will be facing once again, tonight.

ABOUT WEST CHESTER UNITED SC

West Chester United SC hails from West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Via their official website, “WCUSC was founded in 1976 with four teams playing a fall season at Hillsdale Elementary School. The purpose of the club, then and now, is to provide the youth of West Chester and the surrounding area an opportunity to play the game of soccer at a variety of levels of instruction and competition. The club started as a small instructional program and then added competitive teams that played "travel" soccer against other clubs in the Delaware-Chester county area and beyond. The club has progressed over the years to become a full service club with over 3400 members.”

On January 18th, 2017, it was announced that West Chester United SC would be joining the NPSL for the 2017 season as an expansion team.

In 2018, West Chester finished the regular season in third place at 7-3-0, defeating Lone Star in the first round of the playoffs before falling to FC Motown in the Keystone Conference final.
