Watkins Continues Strong Start

After scoring a goal and leading the team in shots in the season opener, forward Regsan Watkins found the back of the net for his second in as many games on Wednesday afternoon against New Jersey Copa FC. Watkins was tied for the team lead in shots for the game with three and leads the team through their two games with nine. His two goals so far this season also put him halfway towards the all-time mark in team history, as forward Jordan Saling scored four in the 2018 season.

Making Debuts

FC Monmouth utilized the same starting lineup they had in their season opener on Saturday versus New Jersey Copa FC, which was the first time in team history that they trotted out the same 11 in back-to-back contests. Three players did make their club debuts on Wednesday afternoon, however. Defender Andrew Venezia replaced defender Pablo Fonseca in the 49th minute and midfielder Dakota Dobrovich-Fago came on in relief of Watkins in the 79th minute. Goalkeeper Trevor Zabilowicz made his debut in net with ten minutes remaining as he replaced Jake Leahy a minute later.

Rest and Recovery

While only being fully together for just a few weeks, FC Monmouth had to open their 2019 season with two games within five days against the same team. Following their 5-1 defeat at Copa, they will have a week in between games, with their next game being on Wednesday, May 29th, at Atlantic City FC.
