OCEAN CITY, NJ - FC Monmouth was defeated by the Ocean City Nor’easters of United Soccer League (USL) League 2 in a preseason friendly by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday night at Carey Stadium.
“It’s our first game, same as last year, just trying to get to know one another,” said Head Coach Brian Woods. “To be honest, we didn’t have a lot of our attacking pieces today, so we were kind of trying to make people into forwards… and the other part about it is that we played against a very good team.”

The highlight of the first half was a penalty save by goalkeeper Jake Leahy in the 21st minute, who dove to his left to keep the Nor’easters at bay and the game scoreless heading into halftime.
“I stood him out, made him make the first move, and [it was] a simple save from there,” Leahy said.
Five minutes into the second half, Ocean City took the lead via an own goal. Ten minutes later, they added a second with a curling shot from outside of the box that landed inside the right post and doubled their advantage to the eventual 2-0 final.
“We gave up two bad goals and maybe had a chance or two to put something away, but all in all, we just need more time,” said Woods. “Hopefully we get a little bit better on Thursday [in training] and we’re going into the match versus Copa with a little bit of momentum, knowing each other, and having an idea of what we can do on the field.”
