FC Monmouth will battle the third-best team in the entirety of the NPSL, FC Motown, in the Keystone Conference Semi-Final at Drew University’s Ranger Stadium on Wednesday night.

Last weekend’s 3-1 win at New Jersey Copa FC saw FC Monmouth grab the fourth spot in the conference table on the last day of the regular season.

For FC Monmouth, finishing fourth meant that they would be paired with whoever finished in first, a position that FC Motown held for the entirety of the regular season.

Heading into the final match of the season last weekend, FC Motown possessed a perfect record of 9-0-0 and the #1 spot in the NPSL’s Power Rankings. Although they did drop a 2-1 decision to West Chester United SC, they remained three points clear at the top of the Keystone Conference.

FC Monmouth and FC Motown met in the regular season on May 19th, where the latter comfortably won, 3-0.

Pre-Match Quotes

“When we played them [Motown] the first time away, we didn’t have all of our pieces yet, and we were honestly still very new to each other. Now that we have a whole season under our belts, and we just came off two great wins - we’re flying for it, so I think Motown better be ready.” – Defender Zach Pereira

“We’re really confident going into the playoffs here. A lot of teams underestimated us, being the new guys in the league, and we’re showing we can handle anything they throw at us.” – Forward Matt Thorsheim

“I’m happy with the team, their position, and how they feel about themselves… It doesn’t matter who we have to play, we’re gonna play our best no matter what.” – Head Coach Brian Woods

About FC Motown

Though they were founded in 2012, this summer is FC Motown’s second season in the NPSL’s Keystone Conference.

In 2017, under the alias Clarkstown SC Eagles, FC Motown played their first season in the NPSL. They finished the regular season with a record of 6-2-2 and went on to win the Keystone Conference with a 3-1 victory over New Jersey Copa FC in the playoff final. A 6-3 win against Kingston Stockade FC saw Motown qualify for the Regional Final, where they were eventually defeated 3-1 by the (later NPSL 2017 Champion) Elm City Express.

FC Motown is managed by former New York Red Bull defender Sacir Hot, and was recently featured in a Forbes article.
